Gulsum Sueda Kayacan, M.D.
General Practitioner
Emergency Service at Uskudar State Hospital in Istanbul
Sueda Kayacan M.D, born in Cleveland, OH and raised in Isparta, TR, pursued her medical studies in Ankara at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine. During her academic journey, she actively engaged in weekly neuroscience meetings and contributed to projects by both the EuroSurg Collaborative in Europe and, under the guidance of a general surgery professor from Gazi University. She also gained research experience as a summer research assistant in the TFML lab of a mechanical engineer at CWRU. Throughout her student years, she served as a class representative, school representative, participated in various clubs and societies, and co-founded and held roles as president/member in a few of them. These experiences broadened her perspective on medicine and improved her communication and leadership skills.
Although she secretly aspired to become an orthopedist during this journey, she did not refrain from pursuing other interests, as she strongly believed in the value of diversifying knowledge.
Currently, Sueda is employed as a General Practitioner in the Emergency Service at Uskudar State Hospital in Istanbul, Turkiye. She is working towards specializing in the US. Her life might seem like it is revolving around work and medicine to an outside eye, however, she believes in the holistic concept of health, as B.K.S. Iyengar has said ‘Health is a state of complete harmony of the body, mind, and spirit.’ That’s why she loves and engages in rowing on the Bosporus and hiking in the beautiful nature of Turkiye.
She is excited to be part of an organization that brings her together with other physicians who are walking similar paths.
