About Me:

Gözde Woelk, MD, is a graduate of Istanbul Erkek Lisesi and Inonu University Faculty of Medicine. She was born and raised in Malatya, a small city on the eastern part of Turkey, and she spent 5 years in Istanbul, attending a German boarding school, where she graduated with honors.

During medical school, Gözde took part in various volunteering projects and she also started Inonu University Conversation Club, to mentor her fellow Turkish medical students about their English speaking skills. She was also appointed as the student representative, where she played a key role in academic decisions by collaborating with the faculty and the Dean. She volunteered as the emcee at award ceremonies, graduation ceremonies, scientific conferences where she presented in three different languages.

On the 6th of February, 2023, Gözde’s hometown, Malatya, along with 10 other cities In Turkey, was hit by several earthquakes, the biggest one having the magnitude of 7.8. Gözde and her parents survived, but they lost many loved ones and also their family home that day. She moved to the US a few weeks after the earthquake and she has been living in Maryland since. She currently works for a clinical rotation company in Washington, DC where she trains IMG doctors/students on the American Healthcare system, teaches them how to interview patients and write patient notes into EMR system. She is also the director of marketing and social media for the same company. She aspires to become a psychiatrist in the US.

Society of Turkish American Physicians was founded by the volunteer doctors who got together after the 2023 earthquakes, and that holds a special meaning for Gözde as a survivor of that same earthquake. Wanting to give back in every way she can, she joined STAP in 2024 and she considers herself very lucky to be a part of this organization and being surrounded by amazing people who made everything possible.
